Why Use Solar Power? California's Energy Future

California's Energy Future
To meet California's growing demand for electricity, new power plants will need to be built. This will require huge investments by the utilities and the private sector, not only in plant construction costs, but also in new distribution and transmission lines to deliver that power. All of these costs will be passed onto YOU, the ratepayer.
Furthermore, all the new power plants coming "online" in California will be fueled with natural gas. According to the California Power Authority, "20 percent of our natural gas production disappears every year ... the average gas well is gone in nine years. In less than 10 years, we are going to run out of cheap [natural] gas."
According to Princeton University petroleum engineer Kenneth Deffeyes, in somewhere between two and six years, worldwide oil production will peak. After that, chronic [oil] shortages will become a way of life." (Fred Guterl — Newsweek magazine]
